When I asked Portland camp director Lorraine Zumwalt if she wanted to honor a volunteer, she knew instantly which volunteer deserved recognition. In order to get the surprise timing correct, we waited in the parking lot of a synagogue! Then we had the honor of “sneaking” up the hill to the front of Portland Christian Center and surprising Tana Hines. Several church members, including Tana’s daughter, also came out to see Tara have the honor of adding the “Oregon” sticker to the RV map indicating all the states we’ve visited.
Someone jokingly said that part of Tana’s recognition award was that she got to keep the RV! Unfortunately we couldn’t give her the RV, but we did have her hold the Olympic torch so she now has the talent to jump higher and run faster. Those are skills all RFK volunteers need when working at camp!
