An International Update
Royal Family KIDS
We have an urgent need for more British camps. Did you know there is a foster care crisis in BRITAIN right now? Our camp in Cardiff, Wales DOUBLED in size, serving 50 campers this year! One of this year’s Welsh campers, “Dylan,”* was a ‘sleep talker.’ On Monday night, he moaned in his sleep, “Please don’t hit me…please don’t hit me…”
Late on the last night of camp, the sleep-talking camper was heard again by volunteers. He was softly singing, “I am not forgotten, I am not forgotten, God knows my name!” Social workers, who were skeptical of a church-based camp at first, have been so impressed with the positive impact on children that some asked to put ALL their eligible kids on the list for next year! But we are out of room in Cardiff.

CASTLE LAUNCH FOR OUR NEW BRITISH PARTNER
In order to serve more British foster kids, the FIRST NATIONAL RFK-UK program to run camps and mentoring clubs opened this month! The brand new STARFISH ALLIANCE launched in the beautiful and historic Caerphilly Castle in Wales.
“We had to reserve the castle BEFORE we knew if we would get the community grant to underwrite the cost,” founding pastor Bryan Elliott (photo below) said. “With a £2,000 charge, it was a huge step of faith—but God honored it.” The grant came through and over 100 supporters crossed the moat to hear plans to start camps throughout the UK: Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. GOING NATIONAL WITH A NEW NAME!
Why not call the organization Royal Family KIDS- United Kingdom or RFK-UK? Especially when it is based on the RFK model and got started in a CASTLE?
Because in Britain, the Royal Family ‘brand’ is owned by the actual royal family (i.e. Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry, etc.)! Our British leaders chose the Starfish Alliance name with the tag line “Every Child Matters” because of the much loved ‘Starfish story,’ as dramatized in this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-aVMdJ3Aok
I had the joy of welcoming the Starfish Alliance into the global network of Royal Family KIDS based ministries—now spanning across 8 nations (USA, Australia, Chile, South Africa, Namibia, Ghana, Poland and the United Kingdom).
FEATURED SPEAKER Rob Mitchell, author of Castaway Kid (an international best seller in multiple languages), told of being raised in one of the last orphanages in the USA. Rob credits “Jesus and caring adults” in his beating the odds to become an uber-successful businessman and a devoted dad and husband. Rob reminded the crowd of why they needed to pay attention right now to “kids like us — castaway kids.”
Other News: Australia Connections
Two RFK-USA leaders, Dr. Darren Daugherty and his daughter, social worker Daniella Yella, traveled to Australia’s Gold Coast to visit our partner SOUTHERN CROSS KIDS’ CAMPS. At the SCKC Director’s Summit, the duo presented Trust Based Relational Intervention techniques with kids from hard places. They also shared their personal stories as foster-adoptive parents.
As they returned to Texas, Daniella said, “It’s amazing the feeling of loss in leaving a group of people you’ve only known for a few days – how quickly common causes unite us to become family.”
