While visiting a camp in Houghton, NY this summer, there was a nine year old boy who was at his 2nd year of camp. He walked up on the nurses station porch and sat down next to a staff member. When she asked him how his camp week was going this year, his response was, “Great, now that I’ve changed my name.” She was a little confused, so she asked him how he did that and he said, “I changed my name from wounded, lonely, and afraid to confident and friend of God.” She could hardly contain her tears as she realized a song that we sing at camp had taken hold of this boy’s heart and not only changed his name but also his life.
How many more nine year old boys are floating through the system in need of changing their name? Please consider making a year end gift to support the work in the Mid-Atlantic Region by clicking on the “Donate” button.
