If the police had been watching Ted Berney and his volunteers last week, they would have thought something suspicious was going on. Ted planned a stealthy, top secret operation to coordinate the RV and six volunteer’s cars to arrive in unison at Frank and Carol Rogers’ house for a surprise visit. First we followed his directions to meet in front of the Bremerton Naval Hospital, where we were joined by other volunteers. We drove, parade-style, a mile down the road and pulled the RV into the Rogers’ driveway as the other volunteers parked down the street.
That’s where the slap-stick comedy began. Some volunteers hid behind bushes, and others crept to the side of the house because they wanted to see Frank and Carol’s surprised expressions. Allan sat in the RV, honking the horn…and honking the horn…and honking the horn. Frank and Carol didn’t hear it! Volunteers shifted positions, laughing as some knocked on the door, and others remained hiding all around the yard.
Finally the Rogers came out and were flabbergasted at all their friends clapping and cheering in front of the RV. Carol asked, (in typical RFK fashion) “Why did you select us?” Afterwards we all enjoyed brunch in their backyard and heard examples of the Rogers’ dedication and hard work with Royal Family.
While RFK volunteers may be a bit comical in their hiding abilities, their hearts are full for the campers in their care!
